League Business: Welcomes & Procedures

July Art League Meeting:

WELCOME TO....
  • Visitors from Naperville, Illinois (http://www.naperville.il.us/) Artist Dave Smith & his wife Dale. They have purchased the former Kneen's Building @ 124 S. State. Street & will be renovating it with the goal of opening as a studio & gallery in the Fall of 2011.  Dave will complete his 37+ year art teaching career and he and his wife will be calling Geneseo home.  We are thrilled to have an expanding art presence in Geneseo.

LEAGUE BUSINESS:

    • Voting for the new GAL officers will take place at the August 3, 2010 GAL meeting at the gallery. Nominations are: Co-President: Pauline Swanson & Sue Boss, Vice President: Warren Hadley, Treasurer: Kathy Williams, Co-Secretary: Joan Miller & Jerri Crabtree, Historian: Lenora Pritchard
    • GAL will be adding an overlay (funded by both GAL & our landlord Clarke Barnes) to the front awning that more clearly labels the building as the "GENESEO ART LEAGUE."
    • The next GAL meeting will be held on August 3, 2010.

GAL News: Winter & Spring 2010

        EXHIBITS:
The Colona Library is currently displaying wood-turning pieces by League artist Warren Hadley. Members should check the sign up sheet at the gallery desk to schedule the display of their work at the Colona Library.

We will be continuing to display Geneseo Art League artist work at the Hammond Henry Hospital gift shop.

Henry County Tourism has contacted the League about having an exhibit & sales booth at the June 12th birthday party for "Ryan's Barn" at Sauk Trail Park.  Participation is being considered and will be discussed at the next League meeting. (Next meeting 3/2/2010 at 12:30pm at the gallery.)

        MEETINGS:
2/2/10 meeting held at the gallery with 16 members present. Discussed minutes, Treasurer's Reports, and plans for the upcoming months. Welcomed new member Kim Windisch of Geneseo. Before meeting, Kathy Nelson held a short matting & framing class.  Next meeting will be held at the gallery at 12:30pm on 3/2/2010.
Scholarship Jar: It was voted that a Student Scholarship donation jar be placed in the gallery for public donations to support the scholarship program.

        THANK YOU!:
Benefactor Recognition: Each year the Geneseo Art League is the recipient of generous funding by the Geneseo Foundation and donations by businesses & individuals. These donations, along with membership fees and sales commissions allow the League to continue operating and offering classes, trips, exhibits, and programs that bring art & enrichment to our community. The League has recently had the good fortune to receive special support from three benefactors to whom we offer our sincere thanks!
Mr. & Mrs. John Edwards: Mr. Edwards donated in honor of his late wife Tudi Edwards who passed away in 2009. Tudi was an ardent art education supporter. The "Best of Show" student award in the 2010 Maple City competition will be named the "Tudi Edwards Memorial Award" in her honor.
Revered & Mrs. Johnson: Revered & Mrs. Johnson have donated a  number of paintings by one of our founding members, Roxy Walter (Aud), for our display or sale for League benefit.
George Manidok family: The family of George Manidok, who passed away in 2009, donated in his honor. George was an accomplished artist. Several other memorial donations have been made in his honor by members of the community--including a neighbor who as a child received lessons from George.

Again--our deepest thanks to these families for their generous support of the Geneseo Art League. Your generosity is appreciated and we welcome the opportunity to honor the memory of the special people, artists, and art supporters that inspired these donations.
